A sampler is a piece of embroidery women have made for centuries to prove skill in needlework. By the 18th century, stitching a sampler had become a sign of virtue. With the emancipation of women, the sampler has become outdated. My samplers that though much has been achieved for women’s equality since the time making samplers was a sign of virtue, there’s still a long way to go.
